Scaffolding Jobs

Scaffolding is a structure that is temporarily used to support people and material in the construction of large buildings. It usually consist of a modular system of metal pipes. They can be made of other materials also. In countries like Asia, bamboo is used in scaffolding.
Scaffolding jobs have been around for many years. The ancient Egyptians, Nubians and Chinese used scaffolding-like structures to build tall buildings.
Some of the materials that are basically used in scaffolding are tubes, couplers and boards.

Steel and aluminum are the materials that make up the tubes that are used in scaffolding. If steel is the material of choice they are either ‘black’ or galvanized. Tubes come in different lengths and a standard diameter of 48.3 mm. If boards are being used they provide a working surface for users of the scaffold.

The wood that is used is seasoned wood and comes in three thicknesses, which are 38 mm, 50 mm and 63 mm. The wood comes at a maximum of 3.9 m long. At the end of these boards are protective metal plates called hoop irons or sometimes called nail plates.

Couplers are used to hold the tubes together. One of the most common is the scaffold couplers. There are three basic types of scaffold couplers. They are the right-angle couplers, putlog couplers and swivel couplers.

Joint pins are used to join tubes end-to-end. Some other common materials that are used include base plates, ladders, ropes, anchor ties, reveal ties, gin wheels, sheeting, etc.

Some brands that are sold to people that want to purchase scaffolding products are UST, Pro-Series and Buffalo. This is just very few examples of the products that are out there.

The prices can vary depending on the brand name of the product and the type of equipment you are wanting to purchase. It’s very important that as someone that is wanting to purchase a scaffolding item do much research on it and compare and price. You never know what you may find.

It is also very important to always remember safety. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries reported 88 fatalities in the year of 2007 from scaffolding jobs.

They also found that 72% of workers that are injured in scaffold accidents attribute the accident either to the planking or support giving way, or to the employee slipping or being struck by a falling object. All of these mishaps can be controlled if safety guidelines are followed.
